The Complete Receipt Book of Ladie Elynor Fetiplace.
The title page to the original handwritten manuscript: The Ladie Elynor Fetiplace Her Book 1604 this book I give to my deare Niece and goddaughter Mrs Anne Hornar desiring her to kepe it for my sake: 1647.
Parts of this book were originally published in 1987 by Penguin Books, edited and given an index by Hilary Spurling who inherited the manuscript. Lady Elinor started this book in 1604 and bequeathed it to her niece. Other members of the family added other recipes or notes. This set of books, as far as we are aware, is the only complete record of the original manuscript.
Anyone wishing to reproduce one of the dishes or remedies may need to use a little imagination in interpreting the text. These old recipes may mention ingredients that may no longer be regarded as legal or safe, and some care should be taken in attempting to reproduce them.
