As many of you know, Paul had a stroke last year. He is now home, although still very weak. I feel that we are now in a position to accept orders via the shopping cart, but there may still be some delays.

Renaissance Principles of War: Wargames Rules for conflicts from 1494 to 1660 by T. M. Penn. Copyright 2000 T. M. Penn. This early edition of the Renaissance Principles of War has now been superseded by a second (revised) edition.

The following is taken from the Introduction:

“The rules have a simple mechanism with the emphasis on leaders’ command and control. This is to represent the problems of commanding troops in battle which confronted generals, rather than how many casualties each unit was taking at each stage of the battle. The rules have been playtested on 6’ x 4’ tables, if using larger tables deployment distances, position of baggage etc should be increased proportionately.

Some of the systems used in POW originally appeared in the “Warring Empires” wargame rules published by Chris Pringle in 1992. The innovations in these rules have been refined and improved and Chris Pringle fully endorses the ongoing development of the rules system.”

A4 paperback manual with a separate A4 card playsheet. 34 pages of rules followed by 64 army lists arranged historically and including army lists for:

  • Tudor Period
  • French Wars of Religion
  • English Civil War
  • Polish, Swedish and Venetian
  • Holy Roman Empire

The rules are designed for whole units with no casualty removal so any scale of figures may be used. For larger actions 6mm and 15mm figures are best but 25mm may be used if the player wishes. The following assortment of dice are needed: D4, D6, D10, D20 and Average dice.

Some minor scuffs and marks to the cover with some slight UV bleaching, and some scuffing and marks to the reference card, otherwise virtually as new.
