Napoleon – Emperor by J. T. Herbert Baily. Published by The Connoisseur Magazine, Carmelite House, London. 1908. Printed by The Cranford Press. Geo Pulman and Sons Ltd, London.
126 page clothbound large format book printed on good quality paper comprising 87 pages of text on the life and career of Napoleon Bonaparte with 58 monochrome and colour plates throughout the book and including a section of plates at the end of the book. Most of the plates are from contemporary paintings and the vast majority are of Napoleon. Each of the plates has a tissue paper cover.
The covers show considerable scuffing and discolouration, mainly due to damp and there is some pink staining to the early pages. However, the book is now dry. One plate has become detached from the book, originally from page 48, and is shown in the pictures. Pages 71-80 have an approximately 6cm vertical tear at the top of the page, but this has not made the text illegible.
