War Games Rules 3000BC-1250AD 5th Edition January 1976 by Phil Barker. Published by Wargames Research Group. November 1975 REG Games (Sussex) Ltd.

48 page rulebook for recreation of battles on the tabletop using model figures. Phil Barker’s 5th Edition of his Ancients wargames rules comes from the classic period of Ancients wargaming and bridges the gap between what were probably the two most popular versions of these rules – the 4th Edition regarded by many as the pinnacle which led to George Gush’s Renaissance rules, and the 6th Edition probably the longest lasting of the pre-DB series and still used by wargamers today. This set of rules, therefore, sets an historical marker. It was short lived in usage but brought in many ideas and innovations that are worthy of study.

The rules include a separate quick reference card and a page of official amendments dated November 1976. Base sizes are given for figures sizes from 5 – 30mm. In these rules each figure represents 20 men. The rules use both average and ordinary six-sided dice.

There is some scuffs and marks to the cover, including a black ink mark on the bottom left of the front cover, and some corrosion to the staples, but all internal content is clean and legible. Overall, in very good condition for its age.
